    OrganicWaste

The City of Temecula is participating in a new cutting edge technology that will revolutionize the way that your green waste and food waste are processed. These materials, commonly referred to as “Organic Waste”, will no longer go in to the landfill where they take up landfill space and release methane gas into tour atmosphere. Instead, they will be processed through CR&R’s new Anaerobic Digester where they will be converted into a renewable natural gas and a high quality fertilizer. To learn more about this process, please click here.

  • Hazardous Waste

    Residents - CR&R Environmental Services (6)
It is illegal to dispose of Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) through the automated residential collection program. HHW must be disposed of at a certified hazardous waste collection center. Residents can visit the Riverside County Department of Waste Resources website for information on permanent collection facilities at www.rcwaste.org.

Household Hazardous Waste includes, but is not limited to:

    • Used Motor Oil
    • Solvents
    • Batteries
    • Cleaning Products
    • Wood Preservative
    • Old Paint
    • Pesticides
    • Pool Chemicals
    • Printer Cartridges
    • Old Road Flares
    • Fluorescent Lights
  • Electronic Waste

    Residents - CR&R Environmental Services (7)
Electronic waste (E-waste) is an item such as a computer monitor, television, cell phone or other like materials. Due to the high amounts of lead and chemicals found in E-waste, they are not allowed into local landfills. Please call our office for collection instructions.

Refrigerators and air conditioning units which contain Freon and other chemicals may also require special handling as well. CR&R will collect these items from your curbside. To arrange a curbside pick-up for E-waste or refrigerator on your regular waste collection day through our online scheduling service, you need to set up an online account using your account number and access code. If you are not billed directly by CR&R please email us on our “Contact Us” page or call our Customer Service department at 800.826.9677 to obtain this information. If you have already established an online account and wish to proceed with scheduling a pick-up, please use our Online Scheduling Service.

  • Bulky Items

    Residents - CR&R Environmental Services (8)
Items that cannot fit in your automated containers, such as a chair, couch, or other household appliances are considered “bulky items.” Each residential customer is entitled to call and schedule a bulky item pick-up two (2) times per calendar year, and each call can include up to two (2) items. The total amount of annual allowable items per household shall be four (4) bulky items per calendar year. After four (4) bulky items, additional pick-ups can be provided for a nominal charge. To make arrangements for a bulky item pick-up on your regular waste collection day through our online scheduling service, you need to set up an online account using your account number and access code. If you are not billed directly by CR&R please email us on our “Contact Us” page or call our Customer Service department at 800.826.9677 to obtain this information. If you have already established an online account and wish to order a bulky item pick-up, please use our Online Scheduling Service.

  • Special Services

    Residents - CR&R Environmental Services (9)
Christmas tree collection will begin on December 26th for a two week period through January 6, 2012. Please remove all ornaments, lights, stands, and cut the tree in half if over 6 feet tall. If possible, please place your tree bottom first and upright in your green waste container. If you cannot use the green waste container or do not have one, place your tree curbside on your service day and our tree collectors will come by in a separate truck, there is no need to call the office.

CR&R makes it easy to request special services in your area. Please contact the office located closest to you with details about your special needs. A service representative will then contact you with more information about the appropriate resources. Whether it's collection, containers, recycling or other services, CR&R is here to help.

  • Organics Recycling Program

    Residents - CR&R Environmental Services (10)
Your new Organics Recycling Program will allow you to recycle your food scraps by conveniently placing them inside your green waste cart along with your yard waste each week. This mixed material (food and yard waste) will be converted into a rich soil amendment and a Renewable Natural Gas, the cleanest fuel produced in California!

How your Organics Recycling Program will work
Effective immediately, you may separate your kitchen food scraps and place them inside your green waste cart. If you desire, CR&R is providing a free food scrap kitchen pail for your use. The first kitchen scrap pail will be provided free of charge. Additional pails may be acquired for a nominal charge. You may place all your food scraps and other acceptable organic discards with your yard waste in your green yard waste cart for weekly collection. For information on food scraps kitchen pails please call our Customer Service Team at 800-755-8112.

    Helpful Tips when Recycling Organics

    1. Cover food scraps with yard trimmings in your cart to avoid pests and odors. Yard trimmings will help mask any potential odors.
    2. Line your kitchen pail with paper towels or newspaper which will help keep your container clean. The liner paper can be recycled with your food scraps.
    3. Sprinkle baking soda in your kitchen pail to mitigate odors.
    4. Optional: Freeze food scraps before empting into your cart. Some communities encourage this as a sanitary way to manage food scrap storage, especially for very wet food scraps.
    5. Please DO NOT use plastic bags of any kind. Plastic bags, including “bio-degradable” bags, are not “digestible” in our Anaerobic Digester and can cause significant issues.

Where will my Organic Materials go once they are collected?
The materials from your green organics cart will be transported to CR&R’s new Anaerobic Digester (AD) Facility in Perris, Ca. This new facility will convert all your organic materials (yard and food scraps) into a renewable natural gas, the cleanest fuel produced in California, and a high grade compost material. This new program will help keep all of our organics out of the landfill where they would naturally decay and produce methane gas. Methane gas is extremely damaging to the atmosphere and is a major contributor of greenhouse gases.
