What is a 4 ball Texas Scramble? ›

A Texas Scramble is a four-person team scramble, and this normally requires a minimum number of tee shots of each member of the team to be used during the round. Some forms of Texas Scramble require a player to play their own ball for the duration of each par 3 hole.

Four-Person Golf Scramble

Each team player hits from the tee box, then the team members choose the best of the four shots for the next shot. All team members then play the second shot from that location and again choose the best shot. Play continues in this manner until the hole is completed.

One of the theories as to why is simply because the format became very popular in Texas and Las Vegas during the Depression of the 1950s in the USA. Nowadays, Texas Scramble is an incredibly popular format – particularly in charity events and pro-am tournaments – due to its relaxed, informal manner.

Common rules in scrambles include the following: The team picks the best ball and plays all of their shots from that spot. For shots off of the green, each player must play within a scorecard of where the ball came to rest. In some events, allow a club length rather than a scorecard.

A Texas Scramble can be made up of three or four players depending upon the number of players in each particular game. The player with the lowest handicap in the game is usually nominated as the captain as they have to make the final choice upon which shot to select to take, as we will see.

1) Each member of the foursome must use at least 3 drives per person during the 18 holes. 2) One drive is selected and the other players move their ball to this point. All players then hit the next shot from this spot. 3) The sequence is repeated for each shot until the hole is completed.

On closely mown areas each ball is placed within 12 inches of the selected ball. In any other location the ball must be dropped within one club length of the selected ball. 3) Play continues in this way until a ball is holed out.

How do you calculate Texas Scramble? ›

This differs based on the number of team players. The guidelines are as followed: Four-player Texas Scramble: 25%/20%/15%/10% from lowest to highest handicap. Three-player Texas Scramble: 30%/20%/10% from lowest to highest handicap.
